class 32: Quilts

Rules:
  1. Entries must be the work of the exhibitor within the last two (2) years. Fabric samples must accompany all entries and name labels must be covered.
  2. Judges are instructed by the directors to disqualify soiled, defaced or old work.
  3. In case of no competition, unless exhibit is worthy, the prize will be withheld.
  4. All quilts must be at least 72” x 90”, except where noted.
  5. If the quilt is to be eligible to enter one of the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies Quilt Competitions, it must abide by all conditions of the competitions. *Note* new size for machine quilt.
  6. Please indicate if a quilt is not to be entered into the Ontario Agricultural Societies Quilt Competitions.
  7. If a quilt was made/quilted by a group, all names must be included on back of the exhibit tag.
  8. Articles exhibited are to be the work of amateurs only. (see Rules & Regulations #9)
  9. If using a commercial pattern, the name of the pattern designer must be included on the tag. This is a copyright issue.

Hand Quilted
  1. Quilt, appliquéd, but may have some piecing

Machined Quilted
Sections 4 & 5 must NOT be quilted on a long-arm machine and must be machine quilted by the exhibitor. This quilt is eligible for 8sp-Directors Special.
Note: The entry must be a minimum of 48" x 48", measured on the perimeter (total perimeter measurement to be a minimum of 192" or 460cm).

Long-Arm Quilting
  1. Throw or lap quilt with perimeter less than 240", any construction technique. Colour, design, construction to be judged, not the quilting. Please indicate the name of the person who has done the long-arm quilting on the back of the tag.
  2. DIRECTOR'S SPECIAL: For the best "Hand Quilted" quilt at the Fair in Sections 1-3, Class 32. This quilt is eligible to enter the Ontario Association Agricultural Societies Hand Quilt Competition. Only hand-quilted quilts meeting the minimum size requirements of 72" x 90" will be judged. This quilt will be considered the "Grand Champion Hand Quilted Quilt of the Fair."

Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies Hand Quilt Competition

Rules
  1. Entries must be solely made and “hand quilted” by a individual and exhibited and judged at a local fair (O.A.A.S.) to be eligible for this competition.
  2. Entry quilts must be a minimum of 72” x 90”. Smaller quilts will not be eligible to proceed to the next level of competition.
  3. Judging will occur at local fairs and district levels. A Provincial Grand Champion Hand Quilted Quilt will be selected at the Annual Convention of the O.A.A.S.
  4. Upon making an entry into the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies Hand Quilt Competition, the exhibitor agrees to participate in any promotional activities related to the competition.
  5. The winning Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies Champion Hand Quilt will not be eligible to compete in any future District and/or Convention O.A.A.S. competitions.
  6. Winner’s name to be displayed at the Fair on sign provided by O.A.A.S. Prizes:

  1. DIRECTOR'S SPECIAL: Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies Machine Quilted Article Competition

**PLEASE NOTE**
The following 'O.A.A.S. Special' competition is significantly different from other years. They no longer require a full size quilt, but rather a quilted article, of a smaller size.

  1. Entries must be solely made and “machine quilted” by an individual and exhibited and judged at a local fair (O.A.A.S.) to be eligible for this competition.
  2. Entry must be a minimum of 48” x 48” measured on the perimeter (total perimeter measurement to be 192” or 480 cm) *Note* the article can be square, rectangular etc.
  3. Judging will occur at local fairs and district levels. A Provincial Grand Champion Machine Quilted Article will be selected at the Annual Convention of the O.A.A.S.
  4. Upon making an entry into the O.A.A.S. Machine Quilting Competition, the exhibitor agrees to participate in any promotional activities related to the competition.
  5. The winning O.A.A.S. Champion Machine Quilted Article will not be eligible to compete in any future District and/or Convention O.A.A.S. competitions.
  6. Winner’s name to be displayed at the Fair on sign provided by O.A.A.S.
  7. The entry must not be quilted using a long arm machine and must be machine quilted by the exhibitor.
  8. Article must have visible machine quilting.

Exhibitors work to be judged. Please indicate on the back of the entry tag, the names of the other participants. See Quilt Class Rules.

  2. COBWEBS & CAVIAR SPECIAL: A quilted item (no size restrictions) depicting a landscape or 3 dimensional design.

  9. Quilt block, pieced and/or appliquéd, no size restriction
  10. Quilted cushion, any technique, not a panel
  11. Any finished quilted item using stained glass technique
  12. Any finished quilted item using chenille or rag quilt technique
  13. Any finished quilted item that does not qualify in any of the previous sections.
  14. HOME CRAFT CHAIRPERSON SPECIAL: The ‘Best’ quilt in the hall as chosen by the Quilt judge
    Prize: $20.00
  15. PRESIDENT’S QUILT BLOCK CHALLENGE: Join in the making of a community quilt. All blocks will become the property of the Orangeville Agricultural Society. There are two (2) categories:

    1. Block to be predominately appliqué work.
    2. Block to be predominately pieced work.

    Please indicate on your entry tag the category in which you wish to have the block judged. A kit will be provided for a cost of $2.00 - refunded upon return of the finished block for competition. The kit contains fabric which must be included in your block and instructions for completion and entry of the block into the Fair competition.
To enter the Block Challenge:
  1. Pick up the kit at the Orangeville Fairgrounds office 519.942.9597 or call Fern 519.941.8515
  2. Complete your block as per the instructions in the kit.
  3. Register as an exhibitor. See Rules and Regulations for pre-registration.
  4. Prize money is donated by the O. A. S. President of the current year & Fern Pugh.
